Ein Plädoyer für den Abschied vom Bildungshumanismus alter Provenienz

Prof. Dr. Norbert Schläbitz ist Leiter des Faches Musikpädagogik an der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster. Bis 2012 war er dort Geschäftsführender Direktor des Instituts für Musikwissenschaft und Musikpädagogik.

Is Humboldt’s educational ideal still relevant today? “No,” argues Norbert Schläbitz. Indeed, Schläbitz views the Humboldtian form of educational neo-humanism as a plenipotent ideology that is out of touch with reality and feeds ignorance, arrogance and marginalisation. Citing musicology as his example, the author shows how this presumed discipline succumbs to the notion that the arts add value, is diseased by scientific inexactitude and, itself, propagates idolatry of its own subject. Nonetheless, this polemical essay is not narrowed by mere criticism, but also paves the way to change: Schläbitz argues for a concept of transhumanist education that questions the relevance of the arts to personality formation and prefers to direct its gaze to the new and the foreign.

Ist die neuhumanistische Bildung für die Persönlichkeitsbildung relevant? Nein, sagt Norbert Schläbitz. Den Humboldt’schen Bildungshumanismus versteht er nämlich als wirkmächtige Ideologie ohne Realitätsbezug, die zu Ignoranz, Arroganz und Ausgrenzung führt.
